CALA Homes and Graeme High School Honoured with Top Award
CALA Homes and Graeme High School have received a prestigious award for their innovative partnership project at the 2007 Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) Awards.
This innovative education programme in Falkirk has revealed that pupils can achieve better grades through employer partnerships with schools.
Recognised by Scotland’s business community at the awards, the partnership between CALA Homes and Graeme High School enables pupils to learn about the world of work within the curriculum.
This included a geography field trip to CALA’s Kinnaird Village development in Larbert and a World of Work Day held at the school where third year pupils where able to learn first hand the variety of careers that the housebuilding industry offers.
CALA Homes received the Determined to Succeed Award for Outstanding Partnership Working with a School at the SCDI Gala Dinner and Awards 2007 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
Alastair White, Managing Director of CALA Homes West, received the award from Dr Tam Dalyell FRSE, President, SCDI. Alastair said: “The partnership with Graeme High School has demonstrated the positive impact that employers can have on pupils’ academic success and such schemes will help to lay the foundations of preparing the future workforce to meet the skill requirements of the business community. We are delighted to achieve such a prestigious award in recognition of the partnership with the Graeme High and look forward to developing our links with the school”
