KIER HOMES NEWS RELEASE

Kier Homes begin work on flagship site at Hawkhead Village

February 1 2008

Kier Homes have begun construction on the ambitious Hawkhead Village development in Paisley, which will see a total of 326 homes built on the well known historical site.

To officially mark the commencement of work on site, Andrew Aitchison, MD and Mark McGleish, land and planning director of Kier Homes were joined by Provost Celia Lawson of Renfrewshire Council and Marion Ford of ACCORD Hospice to take part in a turf cutting ceremony.

Kier Homes will transform the 1930s former hospital and grounds, designed by world famous Paisley architect Thomas Smith Tait - who was responsible for a number of iconic buildings including the Daily Telegraph building in London -  to provide a mix of new-build properties including apartments, detached homes, cottage flats and townhouses, set within beautiful landscaped grounds.

Hawkhead Hospital was designed in the new modernist style and features a number of striking Listed and art-deco style buildings which have fallen into a state of disrepair since the hospital became surplus to requirements.

Still a much admired cultural and historical site, Kier Homes will carefully build 195 new-build properties at Hawkhead Village which will beautifully complement the planned 131 restored and converted properties which will be built by The Burrell Company. Hawkhead Village will combine the old with the new to bring the site new prosperity

Andrew Aitchison, managing director of Kier Homes said: “I’m delighted to officially begin work on resurrecting one of Paisley’s much loved and historically important sites.

“We have invested an enormous amount of time, working in partnership with the local authority and Historic Scotland, to ensure that the development is of the highest quality and will bring prestige to the extended Hawkhead community.

“Hawkhead Village is a flagship site for Kier Homes, we are excited to have released the first phase which offers 18 apartments for sale and we are looking forward to the first occupations in summer 2008.”

Provost Celia Lawson of Renfrewshire Council added: “It’s great to be able to officially mark the commencement of work on the site. I commend Kier Homes for the care and attention they have given to the plans for Hawkhead Village and Iook forward to seeing the final results.“

ACCORD Hospice has been located on the Hawkhead Hospital site for 15 years and provides specialist palliative care to patients and their families in need.   Kier Homes has liaised closely with the hospice and has received positive ongoing support for the development.

James A Wardrop, Honorary Chairman of ACCORD Hospice, said: “ACCORD Hospice are delighted that the building work has finally started and look forward to welcoming new neighbours onto the Hawkhead site over the next few years. Kier Homes have continuously worked in partnership with us to minimise any impact and the end result will be a beautifully developed site.”
