April 18 2008

Fife-based house-builder, Thomas Mitchell Homes, is celebrating after winning Small Housebuilder of the Year 2008 at last week’s prestigious annual Scottish Home Awards.

The Scottish Home Awards, hosted by celebrity property gurus, Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan is the house-building industry’s independent awards programme. Established to promote excellence in Scottish house building, winning such a revered award is the ultimate accolade for any Scottish house-builder. Ninety one award entries were astutely debated by an influential judging panel of fifteen industry experts, including Dan Macdonald of Macdonald Estates,  Bill Thomson of Kenmore Property Group and Allan Lundmark of Homes for Scotland.  The panel was chaired by Margaret Curran MSP.

Iain Innes, managing director of the Thomas Mitchell Homes’ private housing division, commented; ” We are absolutely delighted to be have been named Small Housebuilder of the Year.  This is an enormous achievement for the company and it serves as recognition of our hard work and success over the last year.  The company continues to prosper despite current market conditions and our ambitious expansion plans for 2008 are already well under way. “

The Thomas Mitchell Homes division now operates throughout the central belt, with developments stretching from East Kilbride, Gartcosh and Cumbernauld in the West of Scotland, to the Lothians where new developments have recently been announced at Auchendinny - off the Edinburgh City Bypass, Midcalder and at the popular ‘Wester Inch’ Village on the outskirts of Bathgate.

Such recognition of Thomas Mitchell Homes’ achievements was also highlighted at the recent Fife Business Excellence Awards where the company scooped the title of Fife’s “Best Performing Business”, indicative of the contribution that the firm continues to make to the local industry, enterprise and community through quality house-building.

In light of its recent expansion and success, the Thomas Mitchell Group of Companies recently announced its relocation to new premises on the Mitchelston Industrial Estate, Kirkcaldy. An application for planning consent has been lodged for the refurbishment and development of 15,800 sq ft of offices and over 81,000 sq ft of production facility for the thriving timber frame manufacturing division - required to house the four rapidly growing operating companies under one roof.

The support sponsors for the Scottish Home Awards are accountancy firm Springfords, Buccleuch John Sale, PMP Architecture and Edinburgh design house, ‘family’.
