The future performance of the Scottish single survey scheme for property transactions is in doubt following the "fiasco" of the home information packs (Hips) in England, one body has suggested.
Scottish property agent Rettie has said that the future of the single survey, due to be implemented in Scotland in 2008, could be in question following the postponement of Hips in England in recent days.
The change in "political complexion" at Holyrood may also have an impact upon the future of the scheme, the company's directors state.
Mathew Benson, director of land and new homes, commented: "There may well be an element of 'wait and see' in Scotland, involving an assessment of the impact of Hips in England after this summer's introduction."
Tony Perriam, director of residential sales at the firm, added that the majority of professionals in the sector saw "little merit" in the proposals, especially given the performance of Hips south of the border.
The single survey scheme differs from hips in that the pre-sale package in Scotland is planned to include a valuation - an element removed from the English packs following lobbying from industry bodies.
