A garden is an important aspect of a property for 70 per cent of British people, according to leading international property advisor, Savills.
In a survey conducted by the group, almost three quarters said they thought a garden was "important" or "very important" when choosing a property, something that could influence new builds across the nation.
Lucian Cook, a director in Savills' research department, commented: "There should be a correlation between garden size and the attributes of the garden, and the impact it has on [property] value."
Indeed, a well-maintained or a large garden can increase the value of a property significantly.
"It's all part of presentation of the property… That will have an impact. People say that first impressions count, so having something that's neat and tidy will have an impact," Mr Cook added.
Last week the British Property Federation alerted construction companies and estate agents to the fact that storage space is often a big deciding factor in property purchases.
