Tenements 'ideal' for waterfront revival

July 06, 2007
Ambitious plans for the regeneration of the waterfront area in Glasgow are causing heated debate in the area.

An architectural consultant has stated that the discussions between developers needing to maximise profits and locals hoping for a traditional, attractive property is unlikely to dissipate until the developments reach their conclusion.

However, Neil Baxter told Ann Wallace, writing for Headline Property, that it may have an answer which satisfies all concerns.

"Here in Glasgow we do have a model of urban living which works to incredibly good effect – the traditional tenement," he states.

"Updated, modernised, clad in new clothes, it is the ideal solution."

Meanwhile, the weekend of Saturday July 14th sees the return of the Glasgow River Festival, where the public can celebrate the history of the area and explore the possible future of the waterfront.
