New boss of Glasgow Housing Association to provide quality housing communities

August 06, 2007
Glasgow Housing Association (GHA)'s new boss has said she wants to place the company at the centre of the city's ambitious regeneration plans and create well-built, sustainable communities.

Taroub Zahran said that providing it was what tenants and homeowners wanted and it was fiscally achievable it would be possible to begin to move towards Second Stage Transfer - smaller, community-owned housing associations.

Ms Zahran commented: "GHA tenants and homeowners have higher expectations than ever before.

"It's not rocket science - we need to make sure we deliver by managing homes effectively. We need to regenerate entire communities and realise good housing doesn't just mean houses, she told the Glasgow Evening Times.

She stated that her immediate priorities included completing the city-wide investment programme that has so far seen work carried out on thousands of homes and building better relationships with both tenants and homeowners.

Ms Zahran stated that every improvement - regardless of size - was crucial.

GHA is a not-for-profit landlord which has managed around 80,000 homes for tenants and 25,000 for owner-occupiers since March 2003 following a vote by Glasgow City Council tenants.ADNFCR-1074-ID-18235774-ADNFCR
