Construction begins on new development near Glasgow

August 09, 2007
Barratt Homes has announced that construction work has begun on its Laurels development in Rutherglen, just outside Glasgow city centre.

The development, located a few minutes walk from Rutherglen high street and the train station, has generated much interest from local residents and will provide homes for first-time buyers in an area of established housing.

Stuart MacColl, sales director for Barratt West, said that with construction work now underway on the development sales have been fast, with the majority of customers being residents from the local area.

"When completed, 120 two and three-bedroom apartments will be built on this multi-million pound re-development of a former brownfield site," he said.

Founded in 1958 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Barratt has built and sold around 300,000 homes. The group now has a network of over 30 divisions and is currently building on 450 sites throughout the UK.
