Scotland 'still most affordable region in the UK'

Scotland's house price inflation now stands at 14.2 per cent, above the UK average of 10.7 per cent, according to new figures from the Bank of Scotland.

The bank's latest quarterly Scottish house price index also indicated that the average price of a house in the country currently stands at £141,158, some 29 per cent less than the UK average of £198,898.

Chief group economist for the Bank of Scotland Martin Ellis commented: "House prices in Scotland are the still most affordable in the UK."

In news that may interest those seeking a home in the central Scotland region, Edinburgh was identified as the most expensive city to purchase a house in, with the average cost is £228,212, while average house prices in Glasgow climbed by 18 per cent to £169,474.

The Council of Mortgage Lenders recently reported that mortgage lending fell by nearly 12 per cent in September in comparison to August.
